EDI helping out at a women's shelter

A few weeks ago we visited a women's shelter in Mysore, India called Shakthi Dhama. The shelter houses women who are victims of harassment, dowry associated attacks, prostitution, domestic violence and other forms of oppression. Shakthi Dhama offers counseling, housing, food and vocational training to the women and is open 24 hours a day.

When we entered their buildings we noticed that the walls were worn, dirty and covered in mildew. In response to seeing this we offered to clean and paint their walls. So, over the past weekend we bought paint and supplies and washed, sanded, and painted the walls to their family counseling center.

Below are a few photos from before and after:

Cultural visit to The Golden Temple

06/29/2014

These photos are taken at the Golden Temple in Bylakuppe, Karnataka. The government of Mysore was generous enough to provide Tibetan refugees with land and an opportunity to practice their religion and customs freely. Being able to visit this living piece of culture was truly a blessing. I was lucky enough to have firsthand exposure to more of India's generosity and diversity.
